You’ve been told to “fix” your skin. We’re here to help you listen to it.

Meet our founder
Introduction to Stephanie by Finley Theodore Lee
I’m Finley. Stephanie’s service dog — though I prefer “companion,” because what we have is mutual. I’m here for the quiet stuff: eye contact when the room’s too loud. Guarding the door when the world’s too open. Sitting close when silence needs company.
I met Stephanie right as she left a life that looked perfect and we moved from D.C. to NYC. We went through grief. Through therapy. Through everything she couldn’t yet name.
selfmade didn’t start in a lab. It started on our walks in Brooklyn, where she was learning how to care for herself again. The answers weren’t just in a serum — they were in daily rituals that turned care into connection. That’s what we build now: tools for resilience, delivered through skincare.

She feels everything — fully, deeply.
Some call that intense. I call it her superpower.
She’s tenacious. Playful. Disarming in her honesty.
She moves from purpose — from service, from believing in people (especially when they don’t believe in themselves).
She meets the world as she is — sharp, soft, and never halfway. That’s not just how she survives. It’s how she creates something true.

We met in D.C. when she had just left her job serving under Michelle Obama. She titled her first book, American Grown.

Big city. Bigger expectations. She built global beauty products by day. But our walks held us both together.

But I sensed something had started to shift. We began walking for hours. That’s when I realized she felt lost.

We went to therapy. And the walks became something else — reflection, recovery, real-time healing. Her skin was still flaring. But now, she was looking at her mind too. That’s when things began to change.

Then something happened — something even I didn’t see coming. She got enough confidence back to travel the world. Alone. She sent me this photo with these giant dogs with long noses (I think they’re called elephants).

I won’t lie — my favorite part of it all was her coming home. She surprised me while I was staying at my friend’s house.

These days, everything’s different. There are more of us now — scientists, therapists, humans who all care deeply. We’re building something together and you're invited!
Built together. Felt by all of us.
These are some of the humans Stephanie invited in early — not to watch, but to help build.
Our Junior Advisory Board shapes every formula, tool, and conversation, so selfmade reflects all our emotional needs, not just trends.
